Following a topic from december last year about engine temperature (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65333&highlight=engine+temperature+display)
I finally took the time to read temperature(s) using the GS-911. I shut down the engine for no more than a minute after arriving
from work, the engine having normal operating temperature. After I plugged in the GS-911 I took the first reading, then restarted
until the bar graph reached the middle dash. I decided not to let the engine run until the bar graph reached the upper dash, so I
shut it down and monitored the readings and the bar graph until it disappeared at the bottom.
I also noted the cylinder temperature(s). They were about 10°C / 50°F higher than the engine temperature at first, the difference
was reduced to no more than a few degrees when the engine had reached about 65°C / 149°K.
Since all measurements were done while the bike stood still, especially the cylinder temperatures may not be very relevant.
