I haven't been on here for quite some time.
Just finished replacing the control circuit brake hoses on my 02 ( front blew out), replaced them with Spieglers and did the full ABS bleed.
While I was "in" the bike I noticed several wire bundles that used to be covered with rubber tubing, The rubber is all dry rotted and crumbling away.
Anyone else have this happening on their bike?

BTW, the Full ABS bleed is a snap, just time consuming. There is a guy That posted a video of bleeding an 03 1200 RS ABS brake system. That bike uses the same ABS module in the same mounting place and orientation. Very useful video.

I just had to replace a number of wires that had rubbed raw, and then replace ALL the cable management lines on my '98 RT. Lot's of fun recovering cables :(

On my last bike, (an R1100RT-P) I had to do some harness maintenance while eliminating the unnecessary police equipment wiring.

I found a good quality cable Protective Wire Wrap at Harbor Freight for cheap. (less than $4)

The flexible hose is slit to make installation a snap. You may have to cut some zip ties on the harness you wish to cover, but just replace them after getting the harness protection in place. I found it a whole lot easier than re-wrapping the harness with any kind of tape... the results look great too, and if you need to do some harness adjustments or splicing later, the cover is removable and re-useable... No adhesives that get gooey with heat and time to be concerned about either. It comes in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" sizes. Here is a photo.

I've noticed the same thing on my 02'. Mine seem to be slightly oily which may be from the material breaking down or something they put on the wire to make it esier to pull through the harness. Also keep an eye on rubber bushings as they will dry rot as well.

Yeah... the rubber bushings. While I was in there I found an extra rubber grommet for the left side battery cover. Betting the last owner took it to Blue Moon and they lost one putting it back together.

Yeah, that's the same thing the auto makers use under the hood. I don't especially like the split loom. I am thinking of going snake skin.
It is more chafe resistant, heat resistant and can be pulled snug. It works like a Chinese finger puzzle
