There is probably a very simple answer to this but my limited reasoning skills are not up to the challenge. Why does my RT come with factory driving lights just outside the low beams? It would seem that if the headlights are on, and they are always on, there would be no advantage to the small extra lights up front. What am I missing??

Those aren't driving lights, they are parking/front marker lights for visibility when you are stopped on the side of the road (or wherever) without the engine running.

Eric - The little guys are really parking lights, not driving lights. They stay lit with ignition on but engine off. If you parked with the main lamps on and engine off there's a much higher battery drain.

I knew there were smart people out there! Parking Lights.....makes more sense.

On my 2010 RT the following functions are available:

Turning off headlight: with engine running push signal to right and then push in to cancel and hold until headlight turns off. Headlight will come back on if the bike is moved so only works while you are stopped.

Turning on parking lights and rear tail light: As soon as you turn off the engine press and hold signal switch to right turn signal. Hold until parking lights turn on. Resets when you switch the bike back on. Be careful of draining your battery by leaving these lights on too long. In addition, I think some tank bags can cause the parking lights to be switched on without you knowing it.
