Hey Folks, 2015 K1600 GTLE
I let my battery run down twice, I charged it 3 times put it in and nothing, just a blinking red light. So I bought the same battery that was in it, I just installed it after charging it all night and same thing, nothing
If I hooked the battery up wrong what is the fix? The alarm certainly works.
It's been sitting for 10 months, I got hurt and can't ride yet.
Can someone give me a hand
Bill

Check the wiring to the battery and as per my local BMW dealer's shop tech, Make sure that the heavy black ground wire is closest to the battery connection and is tight. Keeping your battery on a conditioner whenever you are not riding the bike will help too.

For several months, I had bike start problems. Over time, I replaced the starter relay and later, the battery. I still seemed to be having problems and two weeks ago, took her into the local shop. The shop told me that my battery connections were not tight and my heavy ground wire was not closest to the terminal. They reattached my new battery per their comments to me and it started right up. 20 trys later, it still starts up at the first try.

Thanks for the info. what do you mean closest to the battery. the ground is on the left facing forward and the hot is on the right. I replaced the battery with the exact one that was. in it. today I'm going to go get a new charger, maybe that's the problem? Out of the box the instructions read that the battery should be a minimum of 12.6, I'm lost without the convenience of a bike shop that services the big beemer

The service tech said that the heavy ground for the bike that connects to the (-) terminal needed to be closest to the battery terminal and other wires would follow. To me, I didn't think that it would matter, but he seemed sure of himself. I had never heard that before. He also said my terminal connections were loose. That might have been more the cause of intermittent start.

Thanks Dan
It might be my old charger not charging the battery enough. I'll check it out and see

If you have keyless ride check the battery in your key fob too.

This is from the K1600 Forum. Maybe the solution to my starter problem !

For several months I have had a problem starting my bike. I replaced the battery and I also replaced the starter relay. Both intermittently seemed to have "fixed" the problem, but only temperately. I finally took it to the local shop and they had the bike for over a week. They said that it seemed like the wires going to the battery terminals were loose and tightened them up. Meanwhile they started the bike numerous times and it would not fail. They found nothing seriously wrong so I picked up the bike and rode it home.

When I tried to start the bike this morning, it would not start. Battery read 13.25 volts so I knew it wasn't the battery. Everything was tight but it still would not start.

When I stop my motorcycle, I generally leave it in first gear and bring down the kickstand. I've done it this way forever. Just for grins, I put the bike in Neutral and she fired right up. I put her back in first gear with the clutch in and she would not start. I put her in second gear, clutch in, and she would not start. Putting her in N and she fired up. I think I've figured out the problem.

It there a part or switch that might be shorting out that keeps her from starting in gear. even though the clutch is engaged?

From the K1600 Forum, it's starting to look like either the clutch switch or the Kickstand switch.

I can't thank you enough for your help, I think I understand now about the cables. I charged up a new battery hooked it up and started the bike. 1st time, test rode it down the block came back and cleaned it up. got on it and it wouldn't start. I thought I tightened the cables, I didn't want to over tighten them apparently they weren't tight enough, so I more than snugged them and I heard the connection. the bike starts right up now
Aloha
Thanks again

I'm not on this forum very much since I purchased my K1600GTL. I did own an LT for about 10 years prior. A great bike.
