A friend of mine got ready to go home after work yesterday to find his NEW GT with 2200 miles was dead. Not even a click when you hit the started. I dropped it off at Lone Star BMW last night and will report back here when I know what happened. Hopefully this is an isolated incident. He did notice the his cruise control was switched on so he thinks someone may have been messing with his bike.

Hopefully it's just something minor. ( ALWAYS USE A COVER )

Wuz that GT a red one?? Be velly interesting to find out whazzup??

FYI - The cruise being switched on will not drain the battery. I left the cruise switch on on all the time on my LTs and both my GTs with no issues.

Yes it is a red one. The Bike started right up for Lone Star twice. Plus it threw NO Fault codes. :confused: They will let it set all day and try again.
David I know the CC switch will not drain the battery I leave mine on the LT on . I just said that as it was the way he knew someone had been messing with his bike.
Rex I agree I ALWAYS use a cover if the bike is outside for any length of time.

We had a bad batch of brand new batteries last year. Load tested OK and did take a charge but they all had a bad cel or short in them and would work intermittently in the new bikes.

I'll throw this one out there, because it is a little known feature of the new CANBUS equipped bikes.

If you pull in the clutch with it in gear, then turn the ignition on, the bike will not start. It will not start until you cycle the ignition switch. If the bike is in neutral it doesn't matter, but with the bike in gear, the clutch lever must be all the way out before the ignition is turned on.

This design is a safety feature, assuring the bike will not start in gear - even if the clutch interlock switch fails.

I watched a guy make this mistake four or five successive times at BMW of Denver because it was his habit to a) pull in the clutch, b) turn on the ignition and c) start the bike. He ALWAYS parks the bike with it in gear. That had been his habit for years and worked fine on all bikes without the "intelligence" to determine a change of state on the clutch interlock switch.

Either put the bike in neutral before turning on the ignition or get in the habit of turning on the ignition before touching the clutch lever.

Thanks Randy I'll pass the info on to my friend . As far as I know the dealer never found anything wrong.

Ok here's the poop, Seems ALL K1300 models built before February MIGHT have a defective "Switch Cluster" on the left side handle bar. The wiring is too brittle and brakes causing an intermitting short. A recall is in the works from what I've been told. So any of you guys with a K1300 check your production date and get with your dealer. This info comes from the service department at my local BMW dealer.

There's not a problem.
There never was a problem.
It won't happen again.
That is, if it even happened at all.
