How you guys handling map memory on a cross country trip (Florida to Alaska). I have a 512mg card for my 376c. Last year I loaded the maps all along my route, but if a decide to venture off the route then I'm just on the base maps. Do you load maps on different cards ie. different parts of the country and change cards as you go?
Might be time for a new 478. -Chuck-

*I* used a unit that holds all of the US. and prior to that I carried the laptop.

Not to say I don't carry the laptop any more, but the maps are no longer on my mind.

Last summer, when I traveled to the Yukon and Alaska, I filled my 512mb as full as possible. It will hold almost half of North America and I put almost everything from Colorado west, including all of western Canada and Alaska. Like Andy, I also carried a laptop, making it easy to add maps. I didn't feel like the proprietary Garmin memory was price competitive enough to justify buying another memory card.

This year, I switched to a 478 when it was time to update the mapping data. I got a refurbished unit from Darrell at www.tvnav.com for a pretty good price.

Thanks for the input. I'll be taking the laptop and add maps if needed. -Chuck-
