Today while riding around town I noticed a sound coming from the road. Thought it was the road surface, but soon decided it was the bike (tires). Got home and inspected the tires for a foreign object only to find a spot on the front tire that will deflect a bit with a simple push of my thumb as if the tread is separated from the cord. It's true only in this spot on the tire. Shipping the bike west next week for a 2500 mile ride through Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and back home to Texas. No time to waste. My mechanic (not the dealer as they are closed on 7/4 and on Mondays) has Metzelers in stock and will mount them Monday, just in the nick of time for me (replacing rear too).

I looked at the Continental web site and found a voluntary recall for just this problem, but I've never been notified by BMW or Continental. Read about it here: http://www.conti-online.com/www/motorcycle_de_en/general/ov_exchange_en/pr_2014_08_11_en.html

I'm happy I found this before my trip, but my schedule will not permit me to wait for Conti to send a new tire, or to continue riding around on this dangerous tire. I'll contact them to see what they say, but I have a feeling this will all be on me. Current mileage on the tire is about 5770. Overall, I'm kind of incredulous and pissed.

I had this happen with my front tire as well. It went around the whole tire on one side. Had to ride home very carefully and get it replaced. Put a Z8 on it and they guy changing it said that it had become delaminated and to make a claim on it because it was most likely due to a manufacturing fault.

Talked to my dealer for a claim and he said they came back and said "not interested, could have been caused by anything". They did not even want to look at it.

Since then I will not touch another Conti. No support.

My Conti original tires cupped badly, you can do a search on the threads, but to make a long story short... Took it to the dealer, they said they had a recall, checked my numbers said they were included, had PR4GTs installed as they had them in stock. Dealer sent the tires back for the recall, Conti said those numbers weren't included, wouldn't stand behind them.

I'll never put another Conti tire on any of my vehicles.

I just shipped my 2014 RT to California. Planning on riding to Billings. Are Conti's on our bikes?

I think the numbers on my tires imply I have tires covered by the recall. I e-mailed Continental using the link the website referenced in the original post in this thread.

I received a reply saying the program had ended...

Called Continental and they referred me to a person in the "Two-Wheeled Division", but she was out. The web page does not show a time period for the program. WTF?

We will see what the story is. Will be contacting the dealer when they open tomorrow.

edited to add: They Continental lady returned my call. She had me read her the DOT numbers on the tire and as fate would have it... the tire is not among the recall group.

But... I went on to ask about the recall period. she said that they were still honoring bike tires that were Original Equipment tires would be exchanged...

Good Luck.

They are prorating the credit towards new tires based on miles on the tires at this point. Why did they or BMW not notify us if we are impacted. BMW knows the DOT of our tires under our VIN.
