Well the old girl is just shy of 45,000 so I decided to change the oil and check the valves. Everything was fine. They were all in spec. Changed two of them out on a previous inspection. I only bring this up because I also did a valve check on a Kawasaki Vulcan over the same weekend. Man, what a difference. The Kawasaki had spring loaded rocker arms. Slide the rocker arm, pick up the old shim (disc in bucket) with a magnet and slip a new one in. I realize there's a big difference between a horizontal four and a big V-twin, but what a simply, brilliant design. My hat's off to the engineers at Kawasaki.
