Just picked up a used 2003 LTE with Commsystem, CB, etc.

The bike has the CB antennae mounting bracket, but not an actual antennae. Got a really good deal, so no problem purchasing what is needed to complete the package.

What do I need to buy in order to use the CB? Is there a particular length that works best?

Is there a type that seems to work better than the stock BMW CB Antennae?

102 inches is the best length. But, since that is not practical, CB antennas use the same “electrical” length in physically shorter antennas.

You should get about the same results with any mobile CB antenna from a reputable manufacture.

CB Antennae - Problem Solved

Went to my local BMW dealer on Saturday.

They had the antennae I needed.

Seems there were two antennaes available-- a German one and a US one. My mounting braket was for the US version and they had one in stock. $25 and I was in business. Works on the receive side, will find out tomorrow if the send side works, too, when I go for a ride with my buddy who has a CB on his.

Someone should check the standing wave ratio (SWR) under transmitting conditions on your setup, and adjust the antenna to minimize the SWR.
