Looking to upgrade the bulbs on my LT.

PIAA looks like an option. should I replace both H3 & H 7 bulbs?

Custom Dynamics has a HID that only replaces 1 bulb, lo beam.

So, any thoughts out there?

Looking to improve my visibility and for the occasional evening ride.

Thanks,

I replaced both the low and hi beam bulbs on my LT with the PIAA's. Possibly the best "bang for the buck" spent on an upgrade! My opinion is it's definitely worth doing! Get the XTreme White Plus bulbs - you won't be disappointed...

For just a little more than the cost of a PIAA bulb you can install an HID lo beam. You will be amazed at the difference.

www.cqlight.com had a good deal for members on here a while back on hid, once you go to hid there is no reason to get anything else. If you have the extra $$ get the low and high beam. Tell them you are a member on here they might still give you a discount price.

I would put HID low Beam, and PIAA Hi Beam coupled with head light modulator.

Bill,
Go the HID Xenon route. cqlights.ca are the ones I used (+1 Sheldan2) and the difference in night riding is totally out of this world !
If you like to be able to flash your high beam at other drivers, replace only the H7 low beam with the HID and leave the H3 high beam (or upgrade the bulb to something whiter/brighter). The HID bulbs take a few seconds to ignite & get bright so no good to "flash".
IMHO HID is definitely the answer

I installed CQLights kit on several bikes. Amazing improvement. Don't waste your money an any super/extra/etc. white halogen kit.

I only replaced low beam, left high beam as halogen. This allows me to still have the 'flash" function: ability to briefly light up the high beam signal to oncoming traffic.

You cannot flash an HID lamp: it takes a few seconds to warm up and light.

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions. I like the HID and piaa hi beam combo.

I'll post when installed.

Ordered the H-7 55/100 WATT AND THE h-3 55-110 watt, from WHITEHORSE.
When they arrive I will post my results or a PM.

Are you not concerned about burning the headlight glass with 100watt?

The headlight glass will not be the issue. The problem with 100 watt light bulbs is that it will end up distorting the plastic reflector. Then you have a very expensive repair as you have to replace the whole headlight assembly. HID while moderately expensive is lots cooler and has yet to deform a headlight assembly.

The low beam is the H7 (55W) and the hi beam is an H9 (65W). The output on the H7 is the same as a 110W bulb and the output on the H9 is the same as a 120W bulb.

Here's what PIAA says about the H7 - "Rated at 4000K and providing 110watts worth of light from only 55watts..."

I haven't experienced any problems with the bulbs or anything related to the lighting system since doing this upgrade a couple years ago! Remember, it's STILL a 55W (or 65W) bulb, just with better technology resulting in better output!

True for the 05 and newer LT, however the original poster has a 2000 and for him the high beam is an H3 while the low beam remains an H7.
