BMW Motorrad Mobile Phone ConnectedRide Cradle For apple iphone

Hi All,

As I begin this new connected experience, first gripe, iPhone 13Pro doesn’t sit still in provided magnetic compartment. So, I see the cradle mounted on GS and some guff about blah blah needed fitting. Does this £200 piece of kit fit on a 2021 R1250RT with TFT, simple question… I thought.
Thanks,

Tony

@Makzimia Not the answer you want, but for a simple life buy a cheap Android phone that fits the pocket and all your troubles will fade away.

Hi David,
The IPhone fits in, just floats around a bit more than I expected. It’s a hit and miss. I’m not wanting to buy any android phone. If the new TFT compatibility cradle worked I’m happier with that idea.

I agree with David. The Connected Ride Cradle cannot be used on the 2021> RT. It is designed to be used with a BMW Nav mount as fitted to the current GS & GSA models. I believe there is an aftermarket adapter that will extend the reach of the Connected Ride Cradle to allow it to connect to the recessed Nav mount on the previous generation RT's. The important point is that a BMW Nav mount with wonder wheel control is required to use the Connected Ride Cradle. I hope this helps to clarify the intended use of the Connected Ride Cradle. Cheers.

Like stated above, the 10.25" TFTs will not work with the cradle. That includes the current model RT, the new K1600 and the R18s equipped with it. The smaller screen bikes will however work fine, the cradle was designed for them to replace the Garmin navigator, a.k.a. NAV V, VI etc. You actually need the NAV mount I believe to fit the cradle.

Thank you :). Now we are there. So basically, take it as is. I’ll work out a way to sit the phone in best I can. May just use usb to lightning cable instead of relying on magnetic contact in the compartment. Appreciate the answers.
Cheers,
Tony
Further to this. I found the issue. Shop I bought from just called me after I posted. We worked out the retention lever wasn’t released properly :). Now fixed thank you all for replying to my silly question in the end.

My 13 Pro Max fits in the pocket on my '23 RT just fine.

Yep, and as I said finally above, so does my iphone 13 pro. The issue in the end was not having correct use of the retaining spring thingy :).

Do you have a 1250RT? Did you notice it also doesn’t charge your phone using the wireless charging pad? It starts to charge for about 10 seconds and then it’ll go off and on and off and on endlessly, essentially emptying your battery.

I do have a 1250rt, and as long as I have it out of the case, which I do, it charges fine when using the clip to hold it in place. Even when floating around initially it was charging on one of the trips just fine.
Cheers,
Tony.

Thanks. That’s good news, I’ll get mine to a dealer to replace the cradle.

I found this one: 77528829924 - Halter Navigator 2020-2023 BMW-Motorrad R1250RT | BMW Motorrad USA

febernar, Thanks for posting, that's a nice mount, and I may actually use that to replace my current Telferizer ram ball mount. Also a great find on the accessory socket. Previous posters have suggested it was deleted on the 21> RT. On the earlier model it was located on the right side of the bike. Thanks to your posted video I have now found the socket in a well hidden spot on the left side of the bike. However, although it may supply power, I can't see how any mounted Nav unit or the Connected Ride Cradle can be controlled by the wonder wheel? If you are aware of a solution, please advise. Cheers.

Here's an update.
I bought and had only the halter installed this morning, not the cradle.
To my surprise the holes under the handlebars were not threaded!
Great job by the mechanic but in the end the halter was mounted.
I still have to decide which support to use for the phone, since the ones I currently use are too large in diameter, they don't fit the halter.
Ciao
