I think it's the future of driving.
DARPA has been holding a Grand Challenge contest for many years that puts fully-autonomous vehicles through a designated off-road course. They've also expanded to an Urban Challenge, putting these driver-less vehicles through normal (deserted) city streets.
The BMW ConnectedRide concept is interesting in how much of it is based on bike-based sensors and automation, and how much relies on info communicated from other vehicles.
We've got a ways to go here, but it's coming.
