BMW Communication System for Touring Bikes

Am ready to buy a new R1200RT and want to take full advantage of the bikes Bluetooth system for sound/GPS/phone etc. Dealer tells me the only helmet the com system is compatible with is a Schuberth full face in only one style. Have nothing against Schuberth, but am biased to a half or 3/4 headgear.

Anyone had experience with modifying non-Schuberth helmets to accommodate the system? How about mounting all the components aside from speakers/mic in a waterproof pouch attached to the back of a helmet? Any ideas/experience/thoughts?
