My 2002 radio/cassette unit needs repair. Has anyone had good or bad luck, sending their unit back to Becker for repair?

There is a shop here in San Diego that repairs just about every radio/tape/CD changer known. I had them repair the CD changer from my BMW 525i.

Becker control element

Do you think this shop will fix a corroded control element too?

The one with 8 buttons on it which turns the music on/off etc.

They probably won't have any repair parts for the control panel, but likely the radio itself is common to other BMW applications. Call them and ask. You may need the sticker information on the radio for them to look it up.

ControlElement price

I was at the dealer yesterday.

The cost of a new control element is Singapore dollars $566..

That works out to be around $337 USD... sheesh..

Ron said for $138 they would excange the Radio portion (NOT the 8 button display portion) for a rebuilt one.

Thanks

Hi there,

Appreciate that.

I just pulled out the cassette player/radio to inspect it to ensure there isn't any corrosion...

Will need to get a tiny version of Hex keys to open it up.

Thanks.. now I know it's just $138 instead of $650 for a working radio/cassette unit.

Radio Torx screw size

The #8 torx tip will remove the radio cover. Sears sell a multi tip torx driver for $9.99. Hope this helps.
