I talked to the mechanic at my BMW dealer this afternoon about installing LED lights on my 2011 RT and was surprised when I was told firstly that the RT has no provision in the wiring for aux lights (unlike the GS or 1600), and that installing them may risk blowing up a 2 grand circuit board. Any problems would void the warranty. The shop has been there for as long as I can remember (prob 20 yrs) and he reckons they have never installed aux LED's on an RT.
Surprised me, especially since lots of forum members have them. Anyway, he said he could do it but at my risk. Anyone heard this before?

I'd find another mechanic for any electrical work. That guy has no understanding of the BMW electrical system. It is true that there are no factory provided connections for auxiliary lights, but there is no problem adding any properly switched and fused electrical accessory to an RT.

When I purchased my new rt we discussed LED lights. He said as long as you wire them in externally to the existing wire harness it will not void the warranty. In other words wire them in using an external circuit. Power feed from the battery through a fused circuit and a relay.
How you want to control them is your choice. On with ignition or switched.

I have a brand called Savage, they are 10 W CREE LED's that I want to mount under the oil cooler. I am also having trouble getting brackets for them as Ezymounts are currently out of stock. I was going to make brackets myself but have been advised against it. So a work in progress.

Why did anyone tell you to not fabricate your own brackets

Here is the setup for Kristas with the Clearwater brackets on my RT:
