Is there a way to enable the BC to update instantaneously (without having to push the button every second)?

If you mean, can the BC be set to scroll thru temp, DTE, MPG1, MPG2, etc automatically, I do not believe that it will do that.

Nope. Those pesky engineers did not think outside the box on what people might want to do down the road. It is easy to hit and hold the BC button on the 05 + bikes as it is right there and handy as opposed to the one on the dash for the older bikes. That way you get an instant (and accurate) speed.

Didn't the older LT's have a BC button on the right handlebar where the electric centerstand button is located now?

Yeah, dating back to 1999 the electric controls were less capable I guess....the LT was more mechanical as in odometers and such.

The reset button was ON the BC unit up on the dash on the older bikes and you could hold it and then press the BC button to put it in a calibration mode where you could modify parameters. No way to do that on the new ones.

Nope. It is integral to the dash board electronics.
