Hello everyone.
I’m new to the site and new to BMW. I bought a 2001 BMW 1200LT from a co-worker. It has the infamous low / dead idle. At cold start up it will run at ~900 rpm, then once warmed up it runs at about 500rms, then once you rev it up and let go the idle just dies out. I have looked here on the forum and have tried a few things but nothing has worked as of yet. I have taken everything off and looked for loose/cracked hoses. Made sure air filter is clean. I did a TPS re-set and still nothing. The previous owner dropped the bike at low speed then fixed the damages and said everything was fine at that point. He then changed the plugs and that’s when he first noticed the problem. Then it sat for 6-8 months. I have changed out the plugs again and it still does it. Reading the board it looks like my problem might be with the idle actuator unit. I also read that the O2 sensor might also cause this.

I was wondering if anyone in the Austin TX area has a GS-911 unit that could help me with the issue? I read that the GS-911 can read what’s wrong with the system. I was told that even if I bought a new actuator that I would still need to GS-911 unit to re-train it or have the dealer do it. Not sure about that. Anyone available in the Austin area that knows about the 1200lt idle issues care to help out? I figured I would try here first before actually taking to the dealer.

Thanks.

Hope to see you on the road… eventually!

Just read a few more posts saying that the GS-911 is not needed. All I need to do is the TPS reset, then ride it a few times and it should be good. I didn't ride mine after the TPS reset. I failed to mention that I did put a new battery in the bike but the issue was there before the old battery died. Let me try the TPS reset one more time and ride it around to see if this works.
