I'll be on the look-out for another bike next year and a BMW is high on the list.

I can't stomach paying full price for a brand new bike from a dealer, so a lightly used bike at a good price is the way to go in my books.

Here's a 2004 K1200LT for sale at my local BMW dealership:
http://www.atlanticmotoplex.ca/motorcycle/used/BMW/2004-BMW-K1200LT-eacbff674046388f01b75e545f874e08.htm

According to the write-up on this particular bike, it's pretty much loaded. I assume that it has cruise control.

They're "asking" $12,999.00 Canadian (12,836.99 USD) and the mileage on the bike is 53,205 km (33,060.05 miles). I know that there are super deals down in the States but I'd rather get something closer to home if possible.

Anyway, what I'm wondering is, were there any significant improvements in the LT after 2004?

The 2004 has an electric centre stand doesn't it?

Were there any problems with the 2004s?

2005 is the year they made the improvements to the LT like the power centerstand, more hp, better low speed handling, changed the headlight configuration, changed the dash, the seat, and made some changes to the tranny gears and ratios. I remember reading the pamphlet about the changes and most were minor. If I would have been looking for an LT the year before I bought mine I would have had an 04'.

The price seems really high. I bought my 03 two months ago for $7500. It has all the options and 38000 miles, fresh servicing and new rear tire.

It might be worth buying one elsewhere and shipping it home...

this one is even in your neighborhood...

Or store it in the purchase area until winter is over, and ride it home!

You will get newer with lower miles for the same or less

Plus you get a great ride/adventure with your purchase....If you are thinking about a 2004 you can get almost the same bike in a 2002 with low miles, and a whole lot less cost.

Thanks for your input guys!

And also thanks for those links, I'll check them out. You're so right that where I'm at, I have all winter to think about it.

BTW, that blue 2007 is pretty sharp!

Yeah, our prices are pretty high for bikes here in Canada, the price of bikes in California are so low compared to what I'm used to seeing here.

I picked up a 2005 K1200LT in Pembrooke, NH late this September at the place in the link I posted below. They ship anywhere, I looked at their shipping rate for the US and it is about $300.00 US not shure what they would charge you. I looked at the 2007 Lt in this listing and it is in really good condition, the issues they list are really minor. Take a look at the WEB page, good luck in your search.

If you haven't discovered it already, use searchtempest.com to perform a regional search on Craig's list. This is how I found my current LT.

I just bought a 2005 LT. It has the upgrades over the 2004 and earlier models and I think they're worth it. the center stand lifter is great, especially when I put it in the garage - very stable. The extra power is also nice. Paid $9500 for the bike with 26k miles. In excellent shape. Only problem so far, a bit annoying, is the gear indicator works well only for the first 5 minutes of riding.

I had a pre 05 (99) LT and just purchased one of the last new 09's. I like the improvements made since 05 very much, but if price were an issue, I would not have hesitated to buy a used pre 05.
