These are manufactured in the US and marketed by BestRest products. I'm doing a ride across Oz in September and need a good tyre pump and plug kit. Advice please, pro's, con's etc. Thanks, Dennis

I've got a Cyclepump that my SO got me for Christmas many many years ago. Kind of expensive, but packs up small and works well. I have carried it everywhere I've been and it continues to work flawlessly.

Now, I think you can buy some pretty small pumps at auto parts stores for 20 bucks or less.

I've had one for about 5 years and it has worked flawlessly as well. It's very compact and appears to be extremely well made. When I use it, I tend to let it run for 60 seconds or so, then let it cool a few seconds, then turn it back on. To use it, you place it in the storage bag, which then acts as a filter for the intake. I would definitely purchase it again.

Thanks guys, obviously a quality product. The minister for finance will be providing 1 for me as a present as well, cheers, Dennis.

I have a Slime branded compressor and it works great - surprisingly quick. Comes in a small kit from Wally world. Was $20. Use it on my VTX and my LT.

You're supposed to put it in the bag for an intake filter????? Ooops

When I ordered mine, I paid an extra $10 for a10 foot air hose instead of the standard shorter hose. I mounted mine under the pillion seat in place of the cannister and kept the power switch on.

The pump is wired to my aux fuse block and has an inline switch to the fuse block.

I can now air up both tires and even reach my trailer tires, when parked next to it.

I coil it under the rider's seat, right on top of the rear shock adjuster.
I move the coil should I ever need to lift and use the shock adjuster.

I had the compressor and hose on my 2005 and now my 2006.

Luckily, I have never needed the pump. I also carry a plug kit, just in case.

Hi Dennis. I carried a Slime compressor around Oz with me, its always on-board and doesn't take up much space. Topped of the tyres once or twice on the way, but I also had Slime goo in the tyres for peace of mind. Firm believer in running with the goo in front & back for safety reasons. You can buy the Slime gear at Anaconda stores, at least here in Sydney. Also carried a Slime repair kit, but have never used it.

So Glenn, is that the same pump and hose that were on your '05? If yes, I am amazed they were still useable. I took the link to the old posting with your "after" photos and I've got to say that I am even more glad that you are still "useable" too.

Somebody beat me to asking where you store that 10' hose. That is one of those things that "inquiring minds have to know". My inquiring mind was seeing it flapping in the breeze, looped to the front of your saddle the way Gene Autry used to carry his lasso. I think your idea is better.

I would tell you to ride carefully but I am sure you already know to do that - heck, I'm even sure that you were riding carefully at 108 last summer, if not since.

Extremely well made pump. I've had it for many years and used it on a variety of motorcycle, auto and truck tires. A bit on the pricey side, but it's a once in a lifetime purchase item.

Am I missing something? Why are you all driving around with tire pumps? Don't your gas stations and tire stores have compressed air?
I like having the ability to plug & air up a tire on the side of the road.

I wish I had had one a couple of years ago when my wife and I came out of an out of the way restaurant about 50 miles from home at about an hour after sundown one warm Saturday night. A couple of Harley riders spotted my back tire looking low on air before I came out. The closest air supply was a service station about two miles away. Fortunately, I still had enough air to make the trip. The ride to the gas station was pretty squirrelly, and the trip home from there was anxious, with stops at every potential air supply along the way to verify that it was holding up. I still don't carry a mini compressor but this thread has reminded to put that on my to do list.

Tips

Tips,

Same pump.

I salvaged:
P3 lights
Photon blasters (had to replace a single set of LEDs though)
Odyssey PC680 battery
trailer wiring harness
Tank Bag
BMR Co Pilot shelf and wings
License plate (Point B, VA)
Iron Butt License Plate frame
Cycle Pump
Aux fuse block
Other assorted wiring harnesses, doo dads, etc

I just finished replacing:
Rear Rotor (EBC MD615)
Rear brake pads
Bushtec hitch
Extra Photon Blaters on my Rivco hitch mounted cooler rack
Mick O pegs
Installed power to my tank bag
Ordered a Cee Bailey 22" windshield
Changed oil and filter
changed transmission oil
changed final drive oil
Removed OEM GPS and factory mount on the stingray
Removed OEM Cup holder

I had to leave my HyperPro shocks on Dolly.

I still would like to add:
Break it before it breaks kit from member BilletGalore
OEM Floor boards for the Pillion
HyperPro shocks (Big wish lis)

Insurance paid of the balance of my bike (minus $13.00) and also gave me $10,400 for my accessories and riding gear.

I replaced my riding gear with a Scuberth, Ear Inc molded speaker ear plugs, new mesh Olympia 3/4 jacket, pants, Rev It boots, and Rev It Gloves.

I love my insurance company (Progressive for USAA Members)

I am sure I am forgetting something.
