I recently bought a used RT in Florida, did a wire transfer but it only worked because I went through a dealer, my previous bike was U.S. private sale and I paid cash, ask the seller what he prefers.
The dealer arranged for a 30 day temporary Florida plate for me to ride the bike home. I supplied my insurer with a vin number and the bike particulars and they gave me a policy good for 21 days, I had to have the bike registered with RIV Canada within 21 days or they would cancel the insurance.
Visit the Canada RIV site and find what particulars are required for the model bike you are importing. All paper work, title, bill of sale and VIN need to be faxed to your chosen border crossing 72 hours in advance of bringing the bike across.
Expect to pay HST when you enter Canada...that pretty much sums it up.
