I took the leap and moved up to a 2001 1200LT. My previous ride for tt 16 or so years has been a 1984 Kawasaki 1300 Voyager.
I have been lurking the last couple of months on this forum, and do not believe everything I read.
After picking it up on 12/22/12, I have only gotten to ride it 3 times, besides from the street to the garage.
So far, I am impressed with the comfort and handling.
For all the people who have talked about the LT being top heavy, you have never ridden a 1300 Voyager, I find the LT's fairing to be smaller. The old Voyager was close to 800 lbs dry.
The few things I have to get used to are the position of the mirrors, and the acceleration. I do love the heated hand grips and seat, especially with this cooler weather.
I look forward to meeting up with others in the Chicago area, and in my travels between here and San Antonio, TX.
Scott
