Hey All;

Well we did it, a little longer than I thought. daughters wedding and trip to UK limited our long trips.
Before everyone asks. YES, same motor(no rebuild), Yes same FD,
Only "major" issue was the alternator at 218 at which time I also did the clutch, (i was there anyways).
Burns a little oil, but besides that, BEEN ONE HELL OF A RIDE.
Thanks for everyones help on various issues.
Wont propbably get 400K, she will be retiring as the spare when I get the GTL in few.

Congrats on a fantastic achievement on same bike!
During years 1990+ , a few K100RS/LT and K1100LT have been reported on various clubs and forums to have reached 300K miles, however, I was not aware of any K1200 yet.

The same FD and only one clutch job is also very good - clutch material is good for a very long time when driven properly for a dry clutch. Not so sure about long term reliability of these clutch-slave as I have seen many fail before 100K miles.

What about the timing-chain tensionner / guide - do you recall how many changes ?

No tensioner, but did replace one slave, but it was a LONG time ago, i would have to check my records. looks like at 167k,, but it didnt strand me, just lost the clutch for a few miles.
dont have many stops signs by me. i changed the clutch with 1mm left on it. I went to the siebenrock (spelling) clutch, been good so far.

What a milestone!! Congratulations on that and the 'smooth sailing' with the bike. Both quite significant accomplishments!

Superb machine
We all hope for. But the mileage accomplishment speaks volumes of the rider. Care and dedication for the toy in hand. Thanks for letting us know it can be done. Around the clock 3 times is certainly a charm.

An amazing achievement on a single bike.

Also nice to see that someone got one of the oil-proof clutches installed --- did you replace the pressure plate and all of the other parts when you were in there, and how have you liked it? I still have mine out in the spares case -- my rear main has been seeping for more than 40K miles and has yet to slip so I'm still waiting.....

If I'd known you'd broken through 300,000 I would have added you to the list of the High Mileage Illuminati -- I've been doing a little writing lately and just turned my attention to our shared favorite subject.

hmmm, in "our" terms that 300000 miles = 482803 km!!!!

How much do you call a little oil? What is an acceptable amount? With the oil fill on the side it takes a little more of an effort than it does a R bike to add oil. It is still quite an accomplishment to hit that amount of miles. You and Jeff Rye keep trying to wear these things out but they are like a Timex. They just keep on ticking.

According to bmw from the manual is BMW specification is 1 liter per 1,000 km. So im below that. "maybe" 4L /10000 km.
I do TRY and wear it out, 600 miles/ wk and hard riding, I dont baby her. had her 106 last week, according the GPS. Do hard downshifts in the few corners we do have in florida.
I have to have people keep reminding its not a sportbike.
This is one hell of a machine. Thats why Im selling my GS and she will be my spare after we get the GTL. And all I do is the regular maint.

That is fantastic and I wish you a safe and enjoyable 300K more on the GTL of course, the LT could probably another 300K, but she deserves a rest.

Good luck with the new machine. :yeah:

Have you replaced coolant hoses, wheel bearings, swing arm bearings, or shocks? I bet you like telling other riders to look at your odometer. Congratulations (what year do you have)

Coolant hoses, NO
front wheel bearings, 2 times, but not because they went bad, preventive only
swing arm bearings, YES when I did the alternator/clutch at 218,000
Shocks YES at 135,000

I try to be good, unless they are taking a close look. Then your stuck with me and have to listen.. LOL, They usually see the 100k medallion at the rear, then the 200K mounted on the fairing and then to the odo. have to admit its pretty cool.
