OK guys, does anyone know of a seat builder in Australia ? Surely someone must be into this aftermarket thing, this shipping to the US, waiting, shipping back, then listening to the good, then the bad, all getting too much I think. There must be some easier solution. My stock '05 seat and my arse do not appear to like each other, and that's going to be a big problem for the owner (of the arse) in September when we head down the road for a ride across the Nullarbor. I will need an aspirin dispenser mounted where the cup holder fits if I can't improve this seat ! I wonder is the German underside anatomy totally different to all others ?
Hi Dennis - I have a 2010 RT and have tried a number of local options to try and get it right. I spent a lot of money and wasn't really happy with any of the results. In the end, I bit the bullet and got a Russell Day-Long. It was a bit of mucking around, but I wish that I had done it at the beginning. I recently returned from riding round Tassie for a month with my wife - on the way to and from, we put in a few 6-7 hour days stopping every 2-3 hours and felt fine at the end of the day - not possible with the standard seat for us.

Hope you get what your after

We had a ball in Tassie - would like to get back some time as there were a few things that we didn't get to.

With regard to the seat, I bought a second hand riders seat from Beemer Boneyard and had them send it to Russell (this was cheaper than posting my seat over). I could not get hold of a second hand pillion seat, so I sent ours over (this kept me on the road - the bike is my only form of transport). Once they got both seats it did not take too long to get here - only a couple of weeks from memory. For what its worth, I got the vinyl cover because of low maintenance, but I have found it a bit too slippery and wish that I had spent the extra and got leather. Also, I am 183cm and in the search for long distance comfort I put on an Ilium peg powering ket and Ilium bar baks - these definitely made it more comfortable. With the new seat, and after a fair bit of road time in Tassie I have removed the bar baks and gone back to standard pegs (better corning clearance) - I now find it very comfortable. In hindsight, I should have done the seat first and saved myself a lot coin.
