Adding auxiliaries to sound system

Hi, I just bought a 2005 K1200 LT which has an apparent mount with 4 bolts for GPS with 2 wires hanging next to it. Is this standard or and extra? I have a CD player and changer but no apparent way to connect an auxiliary sound source-XM radio portable. Can I add any GPS or do I have to get a BMW GPS installed with a communication system to add auxiliary?
Thanks.

GPS Mount

That is the optional GPS mount. You can get the BMW Nav II or III and the BMW cradle which has some of the controls moved to the cradle, making them easier to use. You can not route auxiliaries through the GPS. Better (IMO) option is to purchase a Garmin motorcycle cradle and a Garmin GPS. The Garmin and BMW cradles are both by Garmin, the mounting holes match on both. If you use a 26xx, 27xx, or 28xx gps and the Garmin cradle, the unit will be more centered as the BMW cradle is offset for extra push buttons.

You can pull the stereo and access a port on the back for an auxiliary input. If you do a search on this site, you can find the part number for the cable you need and detailed instructions on how to install it. I have done this and would not do it again. I haven't found anything with sufficient output to drive the stereo without an auxiliary amp.

I use a 2730 which combines a XM radio, MP3 player, audio book player, and GPS into one unit. Run earbuds/helmet speakers direct, hook in into your com system, or use the built in FM transmitter play through the bike's stereo.

This is what I used to hook up my XM to the LT. Thanks to the help of others on this site.

It fits well on the left side of the stingray with the radio wire harness.
I put the cigarette lighter in my whatnot box and that is where I put my XM receiver.
This works perfect since my XM lives in my car, and I can quickly move it to the bike.

Thanks. Are the 2 wires next to the mount universal connectors for any Garmin or BMW GPS?

Two wires

The power cable is universal to Garmin. The round connector plugs into the BMW cradle. If you are not using a Nav unit, tuck this in under the cover and out of the way.
