Thanks for letting us know. That's a serious bummer. It sucks that neither BMW nor the dealers seem to be on top of this. The least they could do is communicate clearly - I understand that some of this is out of their control. I'm assuming they couldn't give you an estimate of when you could get the bike you really want.
Guys: I haven't tried the new radio system, but I have a '17 RT. I use JBL helmet speakers and Cardo's Packtalk Slim. If I just hook it too my phone and listen to my iTunes and recorded CDs, it sounds fantastic. I can use verbal commands for "next track" "volume up/down" etc. to control it. I tried running bluetooth through the BMW system for a year. The sound was rubbish. I thought it was the helmet speakers, but nope! It was BMW's very minimal quality preamps. Yuk. So, I just use verbal commands and my phone. Works better for me.Just got words from my dealer that the current price for the radio is $512.20. My RT is prepped for the radio, and I may or may not do the retrofit. Have a few things to think about.
You guys who need your phone connected to use GPS? I hope the new system works better than the old one.
BTW: I also used molded ear plugs...for years. My old ones were OK. Made of soft, pliable stuff and fit was pretty good. I had them trim down the thickness a little so my helmet wouldn't squash the plugs against my ears. After 5 years and a replacement cord, they finally gave up the ghost. I bought some new clear ones made of harder plastic. They're murder on my ears. 50 miles and I'm done with them. They sound nice, but not worth the pain.
I'm about to leave the RT community after 4 bikes in a row. GSA is at the dealer all paid for. I'm just wait for decent weather to take my trade up there. I know wind noise is an issue with these. I'm determined to solve it because I've been deliriously happy with just my phone and Cardo helmet speakers...no ear plugs needed. Aeroflow Tall windscreen is the bomb on a '13+ 1200RTL.
