I got a quote from my local BMW Dealer for a 80K service and they want $1735.00 which includes replacing the liner on the chain tensioning rail, slide rail and thrust block. This is supposed to be done every 60K. The total parts are only $429.33 and the rest labor.
Is this excessive and do I really need the liner and chain tensioning rail replaced?

I saw some noticable wear on just one part of the timing chain guide and that engine had over 100K on it. I would not have changed it. So i guess the answer is NO. I know what BMW says but I don't see the need. The timing cover is a bit of work to remove and replace thus the ++ on the labor over a standard service.

The dealer wanted over 500.00 to do the chain guide repair...
