Ok, I have you lot to thank for this !!

Having read a few post's on here with regards to the above rpm, I decided on my 130 mile ride home from work that I test out your theory/ allegations.

Oh my bloody GOD(please excuse the use but it's the cleanest choice) :D :D :D There I was just cruising along in 5th gear at 4000 rpm when my lane became clear ahead for a couple of miles and the thought just rushed in to hit the 4500 mark and go past it, so I did just that. I crept up slowly and along came the noisy vibration and rattle that the Dr Jeckel in me would shy away from but the Mr Hyde grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and told me, nay, SCREAMED at me to go for it...!!!!!!

4700 rpm, the vibration is dissappearing...
4800 rpm, smoothness and power seem to in abundance...
5000 rpm, I'm smugly grinning like a bloody Cheshire Cat...
5200 rpm and my space is running out :( :(

This is definately to be continued :histerica

If you think that is exciting, wait until you try 2nd gear at 6 - 7,000 in the curves (72 km/h)!!! Talk about speed control with out touching the brakes.


Congrats on starting to get into the "fun" power band of this great machine.

I've been watching my MPG on the BC and have been trying to get better than 44 mpg. Seems like it aint gonna happen, so I let er rip and forget about the gas mileage and have fun in the high rev regions.

Enjoy your ride. :D

The mpg thing is HIGHLY overated. I figured it out and if you run the bejeebers out of the LT (have a GREAT) time it costs you less than $8 more per tank at $4 per gallon than if you ride it like a moped. I'll spend the $8!

John Z is absolutely spot on. In the twisties at 6000 to 8000 rpms you can just about forget about needing the brakes. Oh my is it fun fun fun!

And another one partakes of the purple kool-aid!

Wait till you tickle 6800 to 7400 ya that grin you've got now its gonna be a little bigger

But be careful - next thing you know, you'll be flirting with the rev limiter. :D

I have always felt sorry for those who ride in the range below 4500 all the time. All that lifetime WASTED on absolute mediocrity, and all that fun never experienced.

I lived in the middle of curves when I was in San Diego, and learned very quickly that RPM was my best friend.

It is an entirely DIFFERENT bike above 5000, a much BETTER one! Once you live there for a short while, you will never go back.

Some poor uninitiated souls shift at 3000. Actually I did too, DOWNSHIFTED! :histerica

Go find some twisties and keep it above 6500 for a while, and bounce it off the rev limiter a few times. THEN you're having some fun!! :)

Oh you lucky sons of the Dollar !!!!

$4 dollars a gallon roughly equates out at £2.43 a gallon, oh how we envy you :( At the pumps we are currently paying £1.36 a LITRE which comes in at $10.0125 a gallon... We are being raped and buggered left, right and centre over here and there aint sod all we can do about it.

Of that £1.36..... 70% is Tax and Duty and its rising alomost every week :mad:

Am I whining ?? I blame my parents :D it's all they're fault :D

Anyway, I'm off and out on the LT for a little while now... :D

Yipes! Maybe 50 mpg might not be so bad! 3000 RPMs is still fun. Sort of a little bit. Well maybe just a wee bit. Like hell it is! Go get 'em Panman!

As mentioned above someday you will meet Mr. Rev Limiter. Your first thought will be oops something just let go at which time you will back off on the throttle, look down at the tachometer and realize it's just now fallngg down through 8000 RPM's. And then you go back at it!

The worst time the rev limiter can cut in is at the end of a track ride day, you figure you've got all the turns worked out, and you really give it the gas on the last corner before the straight, and.... WTF!!! where's the power gone? There goes the last crack at max speed down the straight.... :mad:
Guess it saves the engine for more fun later. :D
