If they really full of the trick to bring a car for sub $5000 to market coupled with a decent warranty I believe it would sell like crazy despite the obvious and not so obvious shortcomings.

years ago, we bought a chevette scooter, it was 1800 bucks...around 1975 I think...brand new.

The door panels were cardboard, nothing was automatic (cept the trans)..and other than the crappy brake/clutch designs (had another one later with more fancy stuff in it), it was a rock solid machine.

Not too bad in the comfort zone either, but comfort didn't seem to be a big issue at that age, heheh..

I like the smart car, saw them in GE a couple years back...but I think its about 20 grand for one of those.

I agree, I think it'd be at least double that cost here in the USA.

Remember the Yugo? I can't remember how much that was but it may have been around 2500 bucks. What a scary car.

That little car was on our local new last night. It is a funny looking thing but it seats four. I am not sure I would want to take it anywhere since it was listed as top speed of 60mph but as a commuter or school car...maybe.

It will sell like crazy in developing countries, without a doubt. However, it does not pass muster with western safety or pollution standards. In fact, fail Indian pollution standards when they become more strict in a couple of years.

Look for the 2nd or 3rd generation of their product to be something that can be exported to the US and Europe.
