2012 RT heat

Never felt any heat coming off my '11 model.

Are you kidding? I was in 90 degree heat to day, and laughing like an idiot. The R12RT is so much cooler than either of my Harleys it's like riding an electric bike.

I can't say I'm getting any heat at all on my feet, or any heat to speak of anywhere. Do you wear riding boots?

I noticed this as well. I went for a short ride yesterday and had really warm feet. The temp was about 24 deg C. I wear either a pair of Alpinestar gortex boots or Sidi Canyons. I am not sure that excessive heat is coming from the engine. I think it may be the lack of airflow around the foot area. This is not a major problem for me but I am thinking some type of wind deflector might help.

I have both BMW tall boots and Sidi Canyon touring boots.

I was wearing ankle socks with both. Later on I put on a pair of the Rev'it summer riding sock which comes up as high as the boots. It is a performance sock. That was much better.

I was only making the post as I did not recall having this issue with my '09.

It may just be that it was hot and there really is not a lot of air flow at the feet. When I put my hand down near my instep when i was riding, the air was not hot, only warm. It was not like when I had my K1600 GT. That was hot.

I couple of years ago I felt like my feet were going to explode because of the heat. I ended up getting a pair of the BMW Sneaker 3 boots that have a tremendous amount of air flow through them. Even riding at slow speeds you can immediately feel the air enter the boots. As a bonus these shoes are very comfortable. BMW has recently discontinued the Sneaker 3's with the Sneaker X's. A riding buddy bought a pair of these last year and confirmed they are just as comfortable and the air flow just as good as the Sneaker 3's and he also has a pair of the Sneaker 3's. The Sneaker 3's can still be had but popular sizes are getting harder to find.

I'll give these a shot. If they don't work out, i can add these to my parts graveyard in my garage.

Anyway, I ordered a pair from Max BMW just now.

I use the Sidi Slash boots all the time while teaching Riders Edge classes. Keep my feet cool on the asphalt, and when riding in the very hot temps of south Louisiana in the summer. They also are very comfortable to walk in.

I've got no issues with CBT Lite boots and any sort of wicking sock.

Hey Ken,

When it's in the 90's and up around 100 outside any air that penetrates the shoes will be warm. Even warm air from the outside will feel a little cooler on your feet. I bought mine when we were on a trip. My SO and another couple who rides with us thought I was crazy buying those shoes. And now my SO and the other couple all have these shoes. When I bought the shoes I was really just looking for a pair of riding shoes that fit. Previous to buying them I must have tried on 50 pairs of boots just trying to find something that wouldn't make my feet feel like they were in a vise (I have a wide foot). When I tried these on it felt like I just put on my slippers. It wasn't till we got on the road that I felt the air rush in and man o man did it feel good.

Never had an issue with engine heat on the RT. Now my other bikes... that's a different story.

IMO, if you are getting a heat blast (whatever the source) you need to cover up not expose your skin.
