3 days ago, stopped in at a BMW dealer to see the new 2011 top of the BMW, 1600 touring model (i.e.replacing the K1200KLT). Found out that the color selection was limited to silver an blue, a red was not available that is being offered in the K1600 GT. I have a 2005 1200 KLT with a Navigator 2 GPS with a sun burned looking pealing screen that is now considered by Garmin to be item no longer repairable. Only option would to buy a new pricey Navigator 4 with a costly mount change as a replacement, NOT!
Question: With a 5 year warranty on the bike/accessories, why would BMW/Garmin obsolete the GPS only 1 year out of warranty?
My friend who also rode along with me to see the new touring beemer on his 2005 non GPS/ABS/Accessorised, GL1800 paid 8k less than I did when I bought my K1200LT with every available BMW accessories and was offered 5K MORE than I was on a trade for the new touring Beemer. Here's the sad part, the PRICE DIFFERENCE to trade my immaculate, low mileage bike would be as much as I paid for it in 2005, GO FIGURE???
I would have bet good money my BMW was worth more on a trade than a NO GPS, NO ABS, NO Accessory Stock Honda.
Needless to say a trade will never happen at that kind of cash difference. I understand If you want to play you got to pay, but I just don't want to play that hard to take that kind of $$,$$$.00 beating to trade.

That is normal on a trade in at most dealers. That is why I normally keep vehicles a long time. When you do trade it is best to decide what you are willing to pay then walk out if they don't meet it. I have gotten some pretty good deals doing that.

I hate to say it, but your frustration is why I bought an 03 KLT instead of an 03 Wing. I simply did not have the budget for an 03 wing. Their reasle is so much higher than the LT. I was buying in late 06 btw. BMWs have basement resale/trade value. THat's just the way is it, unfortunately.

I'll probably not own another BMW although I really love mine. Unless the 1600s go low like the K12's have.

At this point if anything breaks, I'm basically out of luck til my work situation improves. So I'm almost afraid to ride it - if the rear drive or any other costly common item fails (not likely I know), I'm stuck.
