Hello All
my 2006lt is ready for a new front tyre, currently both are BT20s, rear is ok.
Im a bit confused, i have a Metz Z8 Roadtec in my garage (new), everthing meets spec, but then i read that Radial tyre no good on front post 2004 bikes, that it has to be Bias.
Does anyone know if there is actually a good reason for this, or is it just a manufacturer not keeping up with technology??.
On the face of things there appears to be no real reason, ie early bikes weighed virtually the same, certainly does'nt feel that much more powerful than the early bikes.
Im happy to buy another tyre, & would probably go with the ME880 120/70 B17, as i understand it matches well with BT20 on rear.
Please dont tell me to search tyre threads, i have, it seems about as clear as mud.

Can't really advise on bias v radial... and I can't remember all the reasons that have been discussed, just that's the way it is after the rake angle re-design on Euro 04/US 05 and up.

What I do know is there's another option for front... Michellin Pilot Road 4 GT (PR4GT). This is a cross-over bias-radial design.
It's whats going on my 05 front next time, love it on my K12GT.
Shame the rear isn't correctly weight rated though.

I'm running the Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT on my 2000 KLT an have no complaints. Pair in with the AVON Storm 3D X-M rear. A little pricy for super-slabbing but in the mountains 0:) price-less!

I just yesterday swapped back from Avon 3D XM on both front and rear to Bridgestone (or Metzeler for that matter)

No matter how I adjusted the pressure up/down I could not rid the bike of a Jell-O feeling once past 65-70 mph. With the wife on too it just went from bad to dangerous, couldn't go past 60 mph. Before that I had on Metz f/r and they were rock steady but the front kept losing pressure from day to day, so needed a change. That cost me 'bout $400 hard earned money for 2 weeks of Avon radials.

And what ever you do DON'T mix radials with bias ply. If you wanna try - go bias in front

I've noticed the front end feels like it's floating as well. I just put Avon's on it and wondered if it was a balance thing or just the tires. I had replaced some 3 year old Metz that seemed to have a bit of that feeling on occasion but not like the Avon's do. I might try having it rebalanced or dyna beads and see if that helps.I really like the traction on it but above 60 it's just unnerving.

After having a rear Brig 020 grow on me enough to rub swing arm- I called Bridgestone.

They said to not use radial on LT.

I have been running bias 020 on rear and Avon front. Avon is quick steering- great for twisties, but I don't love it for around town. 020 was better.
