Just purchased a low mile RS, without an owners manual.
How many qts of oil does it take.
I changed the filter and added oil to the filter.
Installed the rest of that quart in the oil filler and 2 more quarts.
Oil line is about 1/8" down from the top of the sight glass and only have 3 qts in.
What is going on.

With a filter change, you should be able to put 3.5 US-quart (3.3 liters) to get up about 1/2 into the sight-glass with bike on center-stand ON A LEVEL SURFACE (this includes the oil you had put into the filter before install).

It is better not to overfill, so I would suggest to stop at 3.5 quarts, make a short ride to fully warm up engine, park on center-stand, wait 15 minutes, readjust level if needed (1/2 to 3/4 into sight-glass is best for this engine).

Even if you paid the dealer to order the owner's manual (2 small booklets), you will get a lot more value for your money if you buy the CLYMER shop-manual (roughly $US 43 on Amazon). The CLYMER is better than the BMW shop-manual with more photos and more tips (I have both).
