My 2002 K1200LT radio w/cd has left the room. I am investigating different options to get the tunes back.

Can I replace the bad unit with a 2000 K1200LT cassette radio? Will it work properly with the control head?

Thanks for any advice you may have!

The MAX BMW Fiche has this information available.

FOR VEHICLES WITH RADIO (CODE: X395A) :
01 65 12 7 707 657 CD-RADIO - ECE

NOT FOR VEHICLES WITH RADIO (CODE: X395A) :
01 65 12 7 707 658 CD-RADIO - ROW

There is also a note on needing an antenna adapter if switching to the CD radio.

ADAPTER WIRE POSITION 24 IS REQUIRED FOR CONVERSION TO CD RADIO. :

65 21 7 661 914 ANTENNA ADAPTER TUBING

I would guess that the X395A would tell you if it was a 100% match.

I bet someone like Sailor would know about the specifics.

It should work but it does have a different connector at the rear of the radio for the antenna. The only issue with controller software is you may always have to shut off the radio before you turn off the key or it could cause battery drain.

Thanks for the much needed info folks. I installed the cassette unit and it works like a charm. Frankly I am glad to have a cassette player now and still have the luggage cd changer.
