I just purchased my first 2002 K1200 LT. Man am I excited and it looks GREAT!. I purchased it from Cowboy Honda in Kyle, Texas and I rode it home to Houston. Here is the bummer part. On the way home my headlight goes out. Truth be said I think it was out when I left the dealership but did not catch it because I was excited.

Anyway I had spoken to the previous owner several times about the bike prior to purchasing it. He told me the light went out on him last month In Kansas City and the BMW Dealership up there replaced the bulb. He said the bike must have a short and he is probably right.

Here is my question:
Has anyone experiences a common short on the head light that may be common? I have not had time to try to fix it. I am thinking of tackling it this weekend. I am not that great of a mechanic and more than likely will have to take it to get fixed.

Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the ground wires in the nose cone. I think they are brown and have a tendency to either corrode or get loose.

reach up in there with your hand when the light goes out and wiggle the wires, My ground wire was loose and the headlight always came on when I did this.

I concer. This happened to me at night on a twisty road. Next day found a loose ground on both the low beam and high beam.

As others have stated, probably a bad ground. Don't bother with a dealer. run with high if you have to. Wait until the week of Aug 24-28,bring a six-pack of Shiner Bock to my place in Mission Bend and I will show you some things you need to know about your LT and replace your low beam with HID. Take about 1-2 hrs some evening that week.

Welcome to the asylum.

Gump your a genius!!

I appreciate all the advise here because it as right on!!! I got home and backed my Fine Tuned Bulvarian Precision Motor Machine out of the garage and cranked her up. I got my kid and told him I needed his help. He said what do you want me to do? I said just stand there and let me know if the light comes on.

Well I started messing with all the connections. Found the brown wire. They seemed good and tight. Checked the plug at 12 o'clock (I guess it is the head light plug). It seemed tight.I checked the smaller plug on the bulb at 7 o'clock and pulled it off when my son says wow..! What did you do? I said why. He said because the light is on. I said cool!
Well I stood up off my fat butt and sure enough it was on. I plugged the plug back in and made sure it was seated good and the bright lights came on and off when activating the switch. So as for now it is fixed. I have some CorrisionX and I will probably spray the connections to clean them off this weekend.

All I have to say I really appreciate all the responses to my thread because hopefully it is fixed and you all saved me about $300 from the BMW MAN.

DanMartin...
I live really close to Mission Bend too. I appreciate the invite and assistance to help my with me new ride. Let make sure I am not schuedle to work that weekend. If I am, then may be I will be able to rearrange it a bit. I would hate to miss to have an opportunity to spend sometime with someone who is knowledgable and give me some advise with the machine.

Thanks Everyone, and You know I will be posting questions again in the near future!
