I am happy to be a new member to your site - thanks for having me

I now have ~ 2500 miles on my new 2012 BMW R1200RT and just loving it.

I'll keep it short for my first post/question:

I can't get my Aux USB to play music.

I picked up a new USB memory stick loaded with my iPOD play list - didn't play

I did a complete format (per manual) and loaded a couple songs - does not play

it has been awhile, but as I remember, it attempts to load and then messages - something like can't read

Is there anything special you have done with your USB load?

Can not get mine to work either. I have tried all the suggestions on these boards regarding formating of the stick and how to name files, no luck. Tried multiple sticks of various sizes also, no luck there..

Are you naming the folders "BMW1", "BMW2", etc. and then placing your songs within it? I just set this up for my 2011 RT.

I have a 2012 and the USB thumb drive works great. I suspect your issue is one of the following:

-the songs must be in the proper format. IIRC, the format is .mp3. I downloaded a freeware converter to convert my iTunes format to .mp3.

- you must create directories on the thumb drive labeled "BMW1, BMW2," etc. I have 4 such directories, each with a separate playlist.

-when you are listening, you toggle thru the playlists using the Mode button. In addition to each list, there is an All feature.

It works, you just have to set it up right.

Good luck!

Tell me more about this Bluetooth transmitter. My Bluetooth is distorted when playing thru radio or satellite, but sounds fine thru the USB connection.

Does this device clear that up?

I'm using the BMW com package with a Scheuberth C3, FWIW.

Thanks

I used this one http://www.senabluetooth.com/products/sm10.php?tab_menu=overview There may be cheaper ones out there but have used Sena products in the past and they have always been good quality. I am currently using the SRC system also I connected the transmitter to the aux line output of the audio system and paired that to the stero connection in the helmet, connects everytime and is not distorted. Temporarly have it in the little glove box and power it from the USB port, since its waterproof I may find a place to mount it in the open to easier access the on/off switch.

This the correct procedure.... UNFORTUNATELY the USB works whenever it feels like it. Mine will work perfectly for a hour or so then stop working and the dash will say "NO USB"... BMWNA is well aware of the problem and I bug the shit out of them every week to fix these issues. You need to call your dealer and have them start a PUMA case on your POS radio. BMW is in denial over the whole radio issue.

Please complain to your dealer ASAP, so they can put pressure on NA to redesign these crappy radio/bluetooth units.

I have sent a formal letter from my lawyer to customer service in Jersey to replace my entire radio unit with a J&M unit.

I had that problem when I used my iPod. As soon as I switched to using my iPhone instead, the problem went away. I decided to file my PUMA case anyway and BMWNA told me that no one had reported that issue yet....bullshit.

Bullshit is correct... I had spoken to Martin, the head dude in charge of all things last December in Long Beach and he was aware of the issue. The real problem is there are thousands of Rt's and Gt's with these crappy radio system. If they actually have a recall on the radio system it would cost millions to replace everyone's radio unit.

It kind of like the 1150 motors that surged yet BMW was in complete denial and would never admit there was a problem... but they quietly fixed the issues over time because everyone bitched about it.
