Hello, I have a chance to pick up a 94 k1100lt for really cheap. The brake line broke on the current owner while driving and sprayed brake fluid under the fairing. Lots of smoke and bike stalled. Been sitting ever since. Won’t power up and won’t start. Before this happened the front brake would gain pressure on its own and cause an issue. Am I looking at a nightmare repair? I’d like to assess the issue myself and go from there. It has 58,000 miles and the service was kept up before the issue. Is it worth a try or should I pass? Thanks for any input, BigBerky

Look, the brake line (rubber) opened up on the inside and made a check valve and burst. This is a 25 year old bike. To make it safe and good to go will take probable 2 grand in parts and all your personal labor. If you want a project to make a bike for you to ride good. You need to know it will never be worth what you put into it, sad to say. But to keep a machine alive, and you enjoy the challenge and money spent go for it. I'm sure you have read all the post of old bike problems and parts that have gone south. It will be expensive and you still have an old bike. Put all that into something newer and safe.
If the bike is in the 500$ or less, go for it.

Thank you for the input. I really appreciate the help! I can get the bike for around the $500 range. I realize this bike is maybe worth 2k running and needing a bunch of expensive parts is what gives me pause. These are cool bikes, but this one might have to go to someone with more expertise. I don’t think the issue is a simple burnt connection or something easy. I was looking for a single cylinder thumper bmw and this 1100 came to my attention. Maybe I’ll stick to my original plan. Thanks again!

Hey Ricardo,
If this bike was an RS I’d still be considering it. The brake line blowout happened 2 years ago. I’m gathering the current owner tried to tear it down and fix so who knows what gremlins are waiting.

Pretty much every bike on the galleries I like you too, has no plastics and not many things that will help you recognized as this or that model

actually that is the funnest part.

They are easy to work on and changing brake lines is simple. I don't worry about value, I want to have fun. Affordable hobby if you can do your own work, and that is part of the fun too.

Check out motobrick.com for K100, K1100 and K75.

Forgot to mention, I have a 94 LTSE with nearly 90,000 miles. Had little trouble. I have it 17 years, that's a shock actually when I see it written. I'm in the west of Ireland.
BTW, how to you edit a post please, couldn't figure that.
