I have looked at a 1985 R80RT and is in good running condition, needs a little TLC. but in all not a bad bike. Has Apx. 84000 miles. The problem with it is....it"s a good friends bike.
He wants $2500.00 and I think it"s worth $1200.00 Plus I half to get it Safety certified and a rear tire. What do you think ?

Airheads unfortunately will hold their value up here. If it is a decent running bike $2500 is not an unreasonable price.

That 800 is a really smooth engine. A word of caution if you do purchase it, your R1200RT will be spending a lot more time in your garage. I only put about 10,000 km in the last 2 years on my R1200RT since I got back into the airheads. Actually I have not even taken it out for a ride this year, but put about 5,000 on my GSPD. ;)

I could get 2500 for any R80.

That is thought by some to be the best engine BMW ever made...

That's actually pretty cheap.. Once you get it fixed up it'll easily be worth 5 grand or so..

Here is an '84 just across the border. Looks good and has less miles same price, easy to import them when they are over 15 years old.

The 800 is a great engine and the airheads are a piece of cake to work on. There is a guy around here that has 545,000 kms on his. They never die if looked after.

If you go with your friends 800 I put some Michelin Pilot Activ's on my R100 this past winter just before I sold it, Nice tires around $200 for both with free shipping, assuming you know someone in Detroit.

Thanx Nick. I think both look about the same and the one here does run very well, so I am still on the fence on the price. I got my tires from Motorcycle superstore also and just put then on just before going to The Dragon last month. They are very easy to deal with and fro both tires Michelin PR2 $206.00 for both! great Deal!!!
