A while back I posted about an annoying whining noise between 60 and 75 mph on my GTL 1600, and received a few comments, some quite funny. (no it wasn't the cop siren) I want to let everyone know that when I did the second oil change, I used ****** 10-40 ma2 as the castrol was not available where I live. The dealer said it was OK to use the ******. To my suprise, the whining noise mostly went away. There is now bit at about 50 mph, but not much. Guess I am sold on ****** now.
Also like other comments I have seen on this forum, the transmissions are somewhat clunky. I notice when riding at slow speed like around town, there seems to be quite a bit of play in the lower gears(or possibly final drive) when one lets off and on the throttle. Not sure if this will go away with time but I doubt it. Any comments on this?
tks, safe riding.

Something that I have noticed from the beginning, and it must have something to do with either the oil or engine parts, is that my bike rides smoother in the early morning, before everything gets warmed up. After about 10 minutes or so, I can tell a difference..

The difference has to do with how easily the transmission gets into gear and the lack of sound. I'm not complaining and what it is like after to minutes, but, it is definitely quieter in the first 10 minutes.

Maybe I need to switch to a thicker (higher viscosity) oil!

I like wine...preferably a good Cabernet or Bordeaux. Why do we want it to go away? Oh...sorry...we're speaking of a different thing here.
