I recently purchased a '07 1200LT. Flew down to DC and drove it back home to NW PA.
On the ride home I noticed that it had a slight miss.
My son and I have torn things apart trying to figure out what’s wrong.
It starts and idols fine. At around 2500 rpms and up it has an erratic miss.
First I ran some injector cleaner through it. That didn’t seem to help so we have since checked spark plugs and checked spark with test light and that seemed to be good, air filter is fine, fuel pump filter is fine, checked fuel pressure……….pressure is 50-52 psi.
Any suggestions on what this could be and what to check next?
Thanks
Ed

What did the spark plugs look like?

Color? Where they all the same?

A set of new ones is around $20.00.

Wires all seated nice and tight?

Run it at night, in the dark, should see leaky wires although something that new should not have that problem.

Yes, plugs are all the same. Wires all good and tight. Only has 12,500 miles on it and has been VERY well maintained.
Do BMW's prefer Bosch or can we use NGK's? Son works at a Honda, Suzuki, Can-am dealer and we can get them through there at a great price.
Thanks

What mileage did you get on the way home?
Have you checked all the manifold connections for loose hoses and/or cracks?
The plastic crank vent assembly tends to go bad and will usually show oil around the TBs when it does.
Also did you maybe overfill it? You should not go above the bottom of the threads when filling.

Didn't really keep track to see what it got for mileage. I know I went farther on a tank of gas on that than my '93 Yamaha Venture Royal did.
Looked at that stuff, but will check it over more closely tomorrow.
Thanks for all the advice.

You still may have some residual effects of old gas even though you ran some additive through it. That's not many miles on a four model year old bike. Old gas or dirty injectors could still be your problem. If you can find some Star Tron......give it a try...............

Good luck!

Don't do like I did and spend a week looking for all kinds of problems when all I ended up needing was some injector cleaner. I used an STP product in a black bottle that was " super concentrated" and I took about 50 miles before it started running good again. Do a search for
rough running 07 to see the thread
