Has anyone else experienced this bubbling on their handlebars?

You may have a clutch hose leaking some brake fluid down there. I would open it up and take a look.

+1 on suspicion of brake fluid. If not a leak, maybe a splash from last time brakes and/or clutch bled or topped off.

No fluid leaks, but I think I might know what I did wrong back when my father-in-law sold it to me. Being a noob motorcycle owner, I washed it with non-BMW approved detergents. I am pretty sure that is what caused my windshield anti-fog layer to crack, too. The bike stayed outside under a cover for a year before I finished my bike storage shed. I wonder if that had any unfavorable affects.

I am learning my lessons the hard way (monetarily). I have since been reading everything I can find about proper care.

Mine has a one inch diameter bubble.
