i'm switching my rear shock with one with lower mileage. can i leave the old preload knob and line in place and simply unbolt and bolt back onto the newer shock? i know there's oil in there, but will i harm anything if i do it quickly? .

i replaced my shocks with some used oem shocks. bike rides like new. i used the original adjuster.knob on the rear. i disconnected it, installed it to the replacement shock, then removed the hydraulic line at the adjuster and refilled the adjuster with oil. all is good.........with 65k on original shocks, i had no idea how spooky handling had become in corners. all good here..............

Why?
There is only one bolt holding the adjuster knob to the pivot and there is no opportunity to introduce air into the unit. Am I missing something here?

one post said the piston on the adjuster will lose oil. i removed screw, pushed piston all the way down and filled it with oil. it works great!
