Hello everyone. I hope that all is well with you. My bike has a factory installed GPS that is linked to the comm system. the bike is a 02 LTE. I have asked my dealer if the is an inline fuse for this system somewhere under the tuperware but he was not sure. he suggested I look at fuses under seat. I have done this already but will go back & recheck. Radio/CD still works fine.
Thank you for any input you might have. I wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Hi John,

Questions for you....Is your GPS powering up but not sending voice to the comm system? Do you have headsets installed(the GPS voice only goes through headsets...not the speakers)?

There is a connector that is under the tupperware on the left side of the radio that sends the audio to the comm system. It has 3 wires and I think they are blue, orange and black. I have not seen any fuses in that area.

Hope that helps some,

Ron

Thanks for the reply. The GPS does not power up at all, and when I plug my cord in, the head set is dead as well. The am/fm works great as well as the tape and cd player. I have not had the time to remove the pannels yet. I appreciate your response to my request. I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas.

John,

It sounds like you have multiple issues there. The GPS power doesn't have anything in common with the audio from the GPS or the intercom. That power comes through the connector on the back of the GPS on the left side. There are 2 other connections on the GPS (right side) the upper is the external antenna connector and the small 1/8 pin at the bottom is the audio out to the intercom.

"when I plug my cord in, the head set is dead as well."

I guess that you are saying the when you plug the lower cord from your headset into the Jack on the bike, there is no audio through the headset. Has this ever worked for you? You say that the radio and CD work fine....is this through the speakers only, or do you get radio and CD through the headset? Does the intercom work?

Ron is asking the right questions. And since all the symptoms are not known yet, I can only speculate based on past experience.

Check to see if the comm unit is getting power. Without power, any signal that goes into the comm will not be processed (like CB, cell, and perhaps the GPS), and the comm will have no output, so your headsets will not work. However, the radio/CD/tape will continue to work fine through the speakers.

The comm unit on my 02 was, installed by a dealer. It has it's own lead to the positive battery terminal, and that lead has an in-line fuse.

Good luck.

Thank you both for the great advice. I hope to get some time over this weekend to check out these issues.

As far as me plugging in my headset to the bike, no sound comes through. Again I thank you guys, and I wish you and your families a Very Merry Christmas............ :)

All the right question have already been asked,
I don't know how long you've had the bike and/or if your radio/comm system ever worked,
so maybe this might help

One common issue with the comm system and headset is there is a black button on the left side under the stingray door,
push in and the headset is on, again and its off, doesn't affect the speakers.
could be just that simple and you wouldn't be the first that tore his hair out over it.
(I'm just saying that, not admitting to nothing  )

Hello everyone.

Thanks again for all of the great advice. We have been spending a lot of time back and forth to the hospital due to my wifes grand mother being in a coma, so I do not have the time to trouble shoot these little issues. I did call my dealer, but their suggestion would have cost a lot of money. This evening, I had the brief opportunity to look for a fuse on the positive lead and found the 15amp fuse blown. I am happy to report that all is well. Thanks again, and I wish all a Happy New Year.

John,

Glad to hear that it was that simple of a fix for you. J&M made a very reliable unit and I have heard of only a very few problems with them. One thing I might add is to ALWAYS be sure that your odiments lid is closed in rainy conditions. I have had my unit get wet and it took several weeks before it would dry out and work again. Sitting on the side stand in the rain with the lid just laying in the closed position but not latched can cause some problems.

Enjoy your ride,

Ron
