LT Sidecar Rig

Gotta admit, this looks cool. Who has a rig and how do you like it? Would LOVE to see some pics.

The LT is too much fun on a "free" two wheels and do not have the right motor to assist a side car. IMO, side cars are like teddy bears and need to be attached to Gold Wings. So does dogs as passengers :-)

My bike & sidecar

I have a '99 LT with Champion Escort sidecar. The work was done by Dauntless. I got the sidecar as I had severe hip arthritis and couldn't trust to balance a two-wheeler.

Both my wife and I love it.

Someone in this thread mentioned pull. Jay, at Dauntless, recommended the power tilt (side to side) saying we'd love it. He was right. As an old pilot (ATP) being able to "trim" the rig is just super.

Curt, that's one sharp looking rig! Glad your health issue did not forego your LT enjoyment!

They said that they don't know when it will be available , maybe late this year . And it won't be cheep maybe $8000.00 or so for the high performance steering / wheels stuff . ...Patric ....

The owner of Dauntless Motors in Kent, WA put a Liberator sidecar on his 2000 LT and pulls a ZZ trailer at the same time.

Now lets not be making fun of sidecars. It is the only way I can take two kids and a wife on long trips to Canada and still be on a motorcycle. Just think of it as riding a Quad instead of a bike. I also have regular motorcycles for riding. It is fun to pick my son and a friend up at school and give them a ride home. You should see the faces on the other kids when they put on their helmets and we take off.
I have an Armec Tremolo II on an 03 LT. It is the best setup I know of but the costs were pretty crazy. I think once the Hannigan develops a centerhub steering setup like Armec it will probably be as good.

hacks

I have had 10 sidecar rigs over the last 15 years. Love my two wheelers but I would not be without a sidecar. Great for getting errands done like groceries, dry cleaning, hauling lumber. want to ride when it is a bit snowy out?...no problem with a hack.

If the $$ are not prohibitive, you want a dedicated front end like the center hub or the leading link front end. Car tires are always better. Pro set up is a must. I have had ill handling rigs and some good like an '02 with Calfifornia 3 but nothing handles like my Bandito rig. Sam's Armec compares but this is lighter and faster. Look at sidecar.com in there complete rig's for sale or haniganmotorsports.com and also cycletrader.com and just put in sidecar and also side car inthe search and leave everything else blank. Also check Ebay the same way.

The coolest thing about riding a sidecar is it is like your always in your own parade....everybody waves to you!

Ron you little dog. You have been out getting more toys. When did you pick up the Bandito? Who put it together for you? That looks like to much fun!!!! I think you should ride it out for the Griffith Park sidecar rally in Oct.

Talking Sidecars

Hey, , who put your rig together, the front end is awesome. Like to have some info on that. I am a sidecar fan but haven't had one for a few years. I believe if you are going to dedicate your motorcycle then do it. that means auto tire.

I believe if you are going to dedicate your motorcycle then do it. that means auto tires, or you'll spend a fortune on motorcycle tires. the only thing on my ride to make it really economical is the tires. I'll put 5 sets of tires on the two wheeler to one on the econobox. That makes the econobox the frugal choice for work.

sidecar rig

Hey Sam....the Griffith Park Rally is a thought. i am going to check out the High performance side car rally in June in North Georgia.

In the process of getting a place in temecula....will close in July. You will have to show me the good dirt biking spots.

Dave:

Go to http://www.hannigantrikes.com/content/home.html and you can read about the Bandito. New one is over 33 grand though. I bought mine used for 15,500. Still too much but I figure I can ride it a few years and get most of the $$ back when I sell.

Those bikes are a bargin compared to the Armec. It is a good thing I will never sale mine because I could never get my money back for it. So you are moving out to California. That will be a big change from Chicago. I am sure Keith will show you all the dirt roads around the San Diego area. You will have to come up for a visit.

A Great Word for Champion Sidecars

Guys,

I had posted last Spring that the mounting frame that Champion used on the K1200LT precluded access to the oil filter.

Bill, at Champion, and I made an arrangement where they would dismount the sidecar and change my oil and filter.

While at Champion, in Garden Grove, I met the owner, Craig Arrojo. When he realized the nature of the problem. HE AUTHORIZED AND THEY FABRICATED A NEW MOUNTING ALLOWING ACCESS, AT NO COST TO ME.

These are great folks. I recommend them fully. I spent the day in the plant and saw the care they apply to all their products.

Re: LT Sidecar Rig

I have an LT with a Hannigan Astro GT, put together with EZS motorcyle modifications b y SideEffects and it handles great. I have had it 11 weeks and have put over 3300 miles on it. I am not tall enough to manage a two wheeled LT, so this or a trike were my only alternatives. My wife loves the sidecar.
