ZZ Trailer or Bushtec who's pulled both?

I'm looking to get a ZZ Trailer or a Bushtec and want to know who has pulled and stop one compared to a Bushtec?
The ZZ is 200 lbs dry. to the Bushtec's turbo 2 is 125 lb's dry weight.
They both are very nice built trailer BUT weight is a factor for how they pull up and down hills.
Thanks,
Harley

Re: ZZ Trailer or Bushtec who's pulled both?

Can't help on the ZZ but I have pulled both a HF home made and a Bushtec. The suspention on the Bushtec has me convinced. You can pick up the empty trailer and drop it and it will not bounce. I used to get a "wiggle" in the bike when the HF trailer hit a bump, don't even feel it on the Bushtec.

Don't even know it is there except during initial start (that damn high 1st gear) and in the mileage department especially in head winds at 75 mph (28 mpg). Normal highway speeds of 65 - 70 I get 38 mpg. That was noted on my trip last month to New Mexico, all told 4200 miles (did 6000+ with the HF unit). Hills are no problem but then I try to keep the gross weight less than 350.

Re: ZZ Trailer or Bushtec who's pulled both?

Welcome to the forum Harley,
I've never owned or pulled a ZZ trailer but I looked at them really hard,
the LT tail light really appealed to me,

I've owned a Bunkhouse camper trailer (great camper too heavy of a trailer for me)
and I'm on my third Bushtec right now,

the main difference between the Bushtec and the ZZ trailer is the lid,

the Bushtec hinges at the front, that gives you access to everything in the trailer,

the ZZ hinges about 3/4 forward, that means that if your trailer is full
(and if you're traveling with a woman it will be)
something will be stuffed up and under the forward 1/4,

to access that you'll have to remove something then pull whatever you've got stuffed under there back,

not a real big deal if you really like the ZZ but it was enough to make me go for the Bushtec,

you can do a search on this site and find a lot of other info on trailering
or you might also want to check out the motorcycle trailer towing forum.

In reply to the PM from Harley where he asked about the Bushtec hitch pin,
here's a picture of the pin, and a small one of the captured hitch
the top ball looking thingy with the rubber cap is the lock,
when you remove the rubber cap and put the key in it, it comes of,
the captured hitch slides down onto the pin and the lock secures it.
If you zoom in on the picture of us in front of Mexican Hat you can see how it hooks together.

Re: ZZ Trailer or Bushtec who's pulled both?

I haven't pulled a Bushtec, but I just bought the ZZ trailer in April and I think it's great. It has zero bounce suspension and handles great in the mountain curves and straight aways. I've run two up with full luggage and trailer stuffed for a comfortable camp set up. The color match paint and LT tail light gets lots of attention and even a few picture takers. It also works great as a weekend parts run or activities enabler (my golf bag fits!).
