Question dauntless hitch bolts??

Hi all;

I recently purchased a used dauntless hitch for a member here. I heard that there are some support bolts that are not long enough and only grip around three threads. I can't find a thread that says which ones these are.

Anyone have a dauntless and can discribe ( show in pictures) which bolts are short so I can get longer ones!!

Thanking you in advance,

Bowdon

Re: dauntless hitch bolts??

I think I made that post. There should be 6 socket head screws(I think they are 6mm) that are about 1.25 inches long. They hold the top of the hitch to a horizontal bar that runs across above the license tag plate. My hitch is an older one and Dauntless may have put longer bolts in since I got mine. I was able to replace them with bolts about 1/4 inch longer from my local hardware store.

I am at work and not able to get a picture for you, but I hope this helps.

Ron

Thanks Ron;

I also have an older Dauntless ( 2002) so I guess I have the smaller bolts. I should be getting the hitch next week, and will check them.

Re: dauntless hitch bolts??

The bolts you're talking about are the ones that clamp to the top of the hitch and frame rail,
very obvious in the attached picture,

going by memory I replaced them with 1 1/2" long either 1/4" or 5/16" bolts available anywhere.

The install is "do-able" with the provided bolts but I agree it is better to have some thread "past" the nut
(get the nylock)

The other picture attached is what the LT frame looks like
and the wimpy part you'll be bolting your hitch up to.
