Who has experience shipping a Uni-Go?

Okay, one of our Northern Brothers (no not the Yankee type the Canuck type ) is buying my Uni-go. He is considering having me ship it, but I have heard it isn't like dropping off a box at UPS. I sent Deputy 52 a couple of emails, but haven't heard back and I would like to get a lot of questions answered so the buyer can make a decision. Anyone have any experience shipping one? Also if you know anything about shipping to Canada that would be helpful too. All the tricks you know would be appreciated.

The guys at Schoolhouse Motorcycles make these things, and I know that not all buyers pick theirs up at the shop, so surely they have some tips? Give them a call at 800-464-2261.

Jerry, try to ping Bullitbill on our list. He is a Uni-Go dealer and might have a few tips.

Thanks Bones,

I just got off the phone with Schoolhouse and they gave me step by step details and lots of great tips, but shipping is going to be.....$$$$$

Re: Who has experience shipping a Uni-Go?

I have shipped two.

I used:

1) Forward Air once and secured the Uni-Go via tiedown straps (kind of floats without hitting the sides. $330.00 to Detroit from Sacramento.

2) Crate/shipping company that built a custom crate for it and shipped it to Dallas, TX for $320.00.

Both were insured.

Re: Who has experience shipping a Uni-Go?

Thanks Raffy,

Schoolhouse said $250, but I surmise they don't insure them, which would probably be the difference. Not sure how the buyer is going to want to do this, but any way we do it I think it will be expensive for him.

Could you meet the guy half-way? All the way, and he pays expenses?

Nice excuse for a long ride.

Re: Who has experience shipping a Uni-Go?

Howard,

Your idea of a nice ride is not the same as mine.

Don't get me wrong, I would love a ride up to Canada and I would love the entire trip after I got north of Denver, in June maybe, but this is not the time of year to be taking off for Canada on a scoot.

Hell, I froze my tushe off riding across Wyoming and Colorado in April and May.

Good idea though.

Re: Who has experience shipping a Uni-Go?

Jerry...
I know it seems a "reach", but, how about a 55 gallon drum filled with "peanuts"? I don't know how long the U-G is, so, only a thought.

If I had the $ I'd have saved you the "shipping" and just came and picked it up...

Glad you found a buyer!
