Electrical Problem!!! HELP????

While hooking up my Aspen trailer to the Golden Dragon on Sunday at the Camplex in Gillette, I noticed that the trailer lights were not working. After further investigation, the trike did not have brake, tail or turn signal lights. Disconnecting the trailer had no effect on the outage on the trike.

Here are the symptoms: 1) turn signal inicators on the dash faintly glow, 2) brake lights, turn signals and tail lights on the back of the trike don't work, 3) if I use the turn signals, both the front signals flash together like I have the emergency flashers on, 4) same if I use the flashers, 5) applying the brakes also make the front turn signals come on faintly, 6) if I use the cuise control and then hit the brakes to disengage, I get a red triangle warning light on the dash that has an exclamation mark in the center, 7) red triangle warning light goes out if I turn off the bike and re-start.

Anyone know where I should start looking? The problem did go away when I went over some rough railroad tracks but came back the next time I re-started my bike after a fueling stop. I checked the fuses first thing but they were all good and tested fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Electrical Problem!!! HELP????

Sure sounds like a bad ground connection to me. Since you converted to a Trike I would look for a loose connector where the wiring in the tail piece and the main harness tie together. Also be sure and check all of the ground wires in the tail piece area. The grounds are Brown in color. Normally this kind of problem is a bad ground somewhere.

Re: Electrical Problem!!! HELP????

I would ask first if you have an isolator of sorts between the bike and the trailer as the stock wiring is not up to the task of handling a trailer load. If the answer is NO then I would look over the harness really well for any melted wires. If you do have an isolator I would look there for the input power to the isolator. I know the rear lights on the bike were not working from your post but often they will wire those up to the isolator as well.
