Hannigan/K LT service

I have always enjoyed dealing with Lone Star BMW in Austin and would still recommend them so long as you don't own a trike! I called today to make an appointment for 12k service and was surprised to learn that they will not service a trike because they don't have a wide lift.

Can you recommend a BMW dealer to service my lovely trike, preferably within 300 miles or so of Austin?

Thanks much.

Re: Hannigan/K LT service

My dealer here in Eugene started out in that direction, but worked on it like real mechanics use to, on the ground. Then bought the lift extensions and came up with a compromise.
When they work on my trike, instead of flat rate they charge me actual hours.
Hasn't been a problem so far........

Thanks Starfighter. I expected Lone Star to do what your dealer did (work on the floor and charge actual time). Before buying the Hannigan/K LT, I had a Grinnall Scorpion 111 and the dealer principal had indicated that Lone Star would work on it if need be. Some of the folks in the service department are new and apparently have a different take. That's OK as I like to ride and taking the trike to more distant dealers for service is only an inconvenience and not a major problem.

Re: Hannigan/K LT service

I do most of my own maint.
(except not ready to do valves yet)
Only problem I had was Hannigan put the wrong kind of grease fitting on the universal and no adapter out there could get at it.
I finally cut a "notch" in the swing arm end so I could lube it.

I don't know if Hank at Rhinewest in San Antonio has a wide lift to accomodate an LT trike, butt he can borrow my side extensions IF he wants to tackle the job. We both have HandyLifts. You gotta wait 'til he finishes working on ole Toad, tho!!!

Ping him, or Jim, Monday (210.826.0014) and see if they wanna tackle the job. Now, they won't be able to handle any of the Motronic stuff, cuz they don't have that gazillion dollar piece of equipment called the MoDiTec, AND I can't vouch for his experience on a triked-LT, but you can ax 'em and get a feel for what they're comfortable doing, when you call. Good luck.

Hi
Dick I just saw your note, above. It's good to know that there's also a San Antonio option. I have an appointment with the BMW dealer in Bentonville, AR for the big service and annual this time and have made acquaintance with a very nice gentleman in the Austin area who knows "K" bikes as well.

Thanks much.

Have either of you talked with Hannigan about this? The company may have figured out a work-around. I bet there's an angled or extended zerk fitting to be had somewhere...

Re: Hannigan/K LT service

I talked to the tech. @ hannigan when it first came up.
He said " sometimes they get put in backwards, I don't know hpow you're going to grease it."
After taking it to Lubrication "specialists" they all tried various gun attachments......none worked.
Could probably remove the drive shaft and locate a 45 degree fitting....( I did do a preliminary search on the WEb with no luck)..but,,,
notching the end of the swingarm was pretty easy.
