What crazy trailer mods have you done?

I've got my cool new aluminum trailer and I'm itching to do some really crazy stuff to it.

Disclaimer: I'm a geek. I've been into radios, networking, and datacomm for decades.

Anyway, here are some things I'm considering:
  • Install a smaller battery in the back like an alarm / UPS battery on an isolator with a higher gauge connection to bike with some sort of quick connect plug
  • Install a cellular to WiFi router within the unit with external cell and wifi antennas (which via cell phone network could provide location)
  • Install some sort of motion sensitive alarm system

Was joking with a friend that I should put a Raspberry Pi in it along with a camera to provide webcam and advanced tracking by hooking up to the legacy cell router.

It's a big aluminum box so it could get hot, but at the same time aluminum could be a heat sink. Ventilation could be an issue with water unless I put a hood on intake and exhaust holes. Just things to consider.

We also have our own vinyl cutter and will be doing some sort of designs to tie it into the silver of the bike.

What kind of mods have all of you trailerers done?

Re: What crazy trailer mods have you done?

Here is what I did with mine. Started out as the Harbor freight special, added rack on front for cooler, rack on top for extra wife stuff and added mount on rear for spare tire. I have had not issues towing at freeway speeds and sometimes up to 80. Not for longs periods at that speed tho.

Re: What crazy trailer mods have you done?

Haven't actually done any mods to my small trailer apart from a surfboard rack, but when I towed a big camper trailer around our little island a few years back I would have loved to have had a couple of small cameras hooked up to a dash-mounted screen that showed forward facing left & right sides from above the wheel wells to help navigate through tight areas, plus a rear camera for reversing, as they tend to spin offline real quick when going backwards...

The fact that you live where you can use a surfboard rack makes me jealous Not to mention, that is a pretty impressive mod.

That fact nobody has said "cappuccino machine" makes me think we get a bum rap as BMW riders. I was going to say something for wine and cheese, but that is what many are using the cooler on the tongues for isn't it? Haha.

My 2 experiments.....both worked but the kayaks were a challenge on the interstate with big trucks.

The big camper I rented for that trip, which included a couple of surfs in different parts of Oz...

Like they can't already via cell phone and traffic cameras? Besides, when Big Brother decides I'm too big of an enemy to the Police State they don't need real evidence, they are pretty good at manufacturing what they need.
