My wife and I were driving scenic back roads in central Kentucky today (in a car, not on a bike). Passing through the small town of Burgin, we were pleasantly surprised to see a small motorcycle shop. It was so attractive it really caught our eye, and we turned around to go check it out.
We met The Kickstand
owners Ray and Lynn Montgomery, and in the course of a few minutes of conversation we learned they ride a 2005 BMW K1200LT and he does light maintenance on most bikes (tires, brakes, oil changes, lighting installations, and more). Lynn told us about several upcoming local/regional rallies, as well as the Bluegrass Beemers' weekly Saturday breakfasts in Lexington.
We had a nice time looking around their shop, which is well-stocked with gear, helmets, bike accessories (Motolights, for example), soft luggage, clothing and collectibles. While we were there a couple of guys on BMWs came and went (RT, GS), as well as a handful of guys on Harley-Davidsons. Other bikes were parked in front of the shop, and there is a nice diner directly across the street.
I'm sure you long-time Kentuckians know about this place but it was a pleasant surprise for us. We left with some T-shirts but I plan to go back because the roads in the area are just right for riding; some are designated as official scenic byways.
